Watkins Named New Principal at Ramay Jr. High

The Fayetteville Board of Education voted unanimously to approve the hiring of David Watkins as the principal of Ramay Jr. High, effective July 1, 2016.

"We are excited to welcome an educational leader of Mr. Watkins stature to our school district," said incoming superintendent Dr. Matthew Wendt. "He is a proven, highly effective administrator, and, as a former Ramay student, he fully appreciates the culture and proud history of Ramay."

Watkins is currently the principal at Kimmons Jr. High School in Fort Smith, a position he has held since 2010. He will replace current Ramay principal Lori Linam, who is resigning to care for a family member.

"I want to say how happy I am to be a part of the Fayetteville School District," said Watkins. "It is an honor and privilege to be selected as Principal of Ramay Junior High. I look forward to the upcoming school year and getting to know the faculty and students while we work together to continue our mission of providing the best education possible.

Watkins earned a bachelor's in education from the University of Arkansas in 1993, a master's in educational leadership from Arkansas Tech University in 2002, and an educational specialist degree from the Arkansas Tech in 2007. He has also completed the Master Principal Institute, phases I and II.

Prior to serving as the principal at Kimmons, Watkins served as assistant principal at Southside High School and at Butterfield and Darby Jr. High Schools in Ft. Smith. He has also served as classroom teacher and coach.

FPS Receives Six National PR Awards

Weber Named Associate Superitendent for Teaching and Learning

The Fayetteville Board of Education voted unanimously on June 8 to approve the hiring of Dr. Steven Weber as the Associate Superintendent for Teaching and Learning.

Dr. Weber joins the administrative team of Dr. Kim Garrett, Associate Superintendent for Administrative Services, and John L Colbert, Associate Superintendent for Support Services, under the leadership of incoming superintendent Dr. Matthew Wendt. "I am extremely pleased to welcome Dr. Weber to our team," said Dr. Wendt. "He is a national leader in curriculum and instruction and brings with him expertise in many areas from working in school districts and state departments of education."

As Associate Superintendent, Weber will provide leadership and direction for district curriculum, instruction, assessment, and accountability, including all academic departments. Weber replaces Kay Jacoby who is retiring on June 30 after 47 years in education, including serving in the Fayetteville Public Schools since 2011.

Dr. Weber formerly served as the Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction for Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. His previous experience includes roles as principal, Director of Secondary Instruction, Social Studies Specialist, and elementary teacher. He earned a doctorate in educational leadership from East Carolina University in 2016 and a master's in educational administration from Arkansas State University in 2010. He earned a bachelor's in elementary education from the University of Arkansas in Little Rock in 1996. He holds both Superintendent and Principal credentials.  Dr. Weber is a native of Springdale, Arkansas and is a graduate of Springdale High School.

He was elected in 2015 to serve on the North Carolina Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD) Board of Directors, and in 2014 he was elected Vice President of North Carolina chapter of Phi Delta Kappa. Weber is the co-founder of Edcamp Elon, widely published in ASCD SmartBrief, and writes an education blog that has garnered over 34,000 hits. He was selected one of the "25 North Carolina Educators to Follow" on twitter (@curriculumblog). "I draw inspiration from being a connected educator," Weber said in a recent twitter education chat.

"I am honored to join Fayetteville Public Schools," said Dr. Weber. "The school district has strong support from families and community members.  I look forward to building on the strengths of the school district, while preparing each student for the next level.  We will collaborate with teachers, administrators, and families to support student understanding."

Congrats to McNair Middle School for being named the #1 middle school in the latest rankings by the Office for Education Policy's latest ranking of the performance of Arkansas schools on the PARCC tests! McNair was #1 overall, #1 in Math, and #1 in Literacy. Way to go, Mustangs!

Congrats to Woodland Jr. High for being ranked the #3 junior high in Arkansas in the same report! Woodland also ranked #2 among Arkansas junior high schools in math and #3 in literacy.

Congrats to Ramay Jr. High for being ranked the #12 overall junior high and #9 in literacy!

Congrats to Vandergriff Elementary for being ranked the #2 elementary school in Arkansas! Vandergriff was also ranked #3 among Arkansas elementary schools in math and #3 in literacy.

Request for Proposals for Food and Paper Supplies

The Fayetteville School District announces a "Request for Proposal" for a primary vendor to supply food and paper supplies for the Child Nutrition Program during the 2016-2017 school year.

A copy of the RFP may be picked up at 2233 West Stone St. Fayetteville, AR. 72701 Monday- Friday between the hours of 8:30 AM and 4:00 PM. or, emailed by request. 

All proposals must be submitted in a sealed envelope and addressed to the attention of Ally Mrachek, CN Director, at the above address.  All documents must be received no later than 4:00 p.m on June 3, 2016.

Search Committee Formed for New FHS Head Football Coach

FPS Director of Athletics Steve Janski announced today that a search committee will be formed for a new head football coach for Fayetteville High School following the resignation of Coach Daryl Patton.

"We are putting together a great committee of parents, former players, and administrators to find the right person to lead the Bulldogs in the 2016 season.
